Abstract
Celiac disease, allergy to cereals and other types of gluten intolerance represent a significant medical and social problem of modern society. Despite the development of scientifically based principles of diagnosis and management available to practical healthcare, a wide range and varying degrees of severity of clinical manifestations and complications of intolerance to gluten-containing products in the absence of sufficient awareness and alertness of physicians and nurses significantly complicates the timely diagnosis and initiation of dietary correction, which allows not only to completely rid the patient of manifestations of celiac and non-celiac gluten intolerance (NGN), but to prevent the development of severe complications and associated diseases. This review discusses the current issues of diagnosis and differential diagnosis of celiac disease, NGN, cereals allergy in current medical practice. The principles of the current clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of patients with celiac disease are reviewed, as well as the prospects for the treatment of severe and complicated forms of gluten intolerance.
